Information and updates on Influenza (e.g., H1N1, H5N1, Seasonal Flu):
The Murray State Influenza Response Plan can be see on the following video clip:
Influenza is a respiratory illness that is spread in humans through respiratory droplets (by coughing and sneezing). There are many subtypes of influenza, including H1N1 (swine flu), H5N1 (avian flu), and seasonal flu. Most cases of influenza are relatively mild...so, there is no need to panic. However, if you develop symptoms and/or have been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with the flu, you should talk with a health care provider by phone to determine whether clinical evaluation, testing or treatment is needed.
Should you experience difficulty breathing, pain in the chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness, confusion or persistent vomiting, you should seek emergency care at your local hospital.
The following information can be found on the Health Clips page:
We are very interested in providing the best confidential health care possible for students while they are at Murray State. Often this
requires having knowledge of past health history, current immunization status and family history. We now have the form
to complete available for you in .pdf format to print and complete. We would like to encourage you to take the time to
complete the Health History. This form may be mailed to Health Services [the address at the bottom of this page is correct - the one on the form is not].
The Risk Appraisal (also in .pdf format) should be completed by the student and brought to Health Services. The purpose of the Risk Appraisal is to give the student insight into areas of his/her wellness that may need improvement as well as potential threats to wellness. This is an excellent way for the staff to partner with students on an individual basis to make some significant changes in their health.

AlcoholScreening.org Take the test: Are your drinking patterns harmful, risky or within safe limits? Receive personalized feedback about drinking and your health based on your responses. Learn about alcohol and health, how to recognize a problem, and guidelines for low-risk drinking. Locate self-help and support resources in your community and on the web.
Health Clips provides you with informational articles on a variety of subjects. Pay particular attention to the information on meningitis and meningitis vaccine. If you are a smoker and want the benefits of becoming a non-smoker, there is information on smoking cessation.
The Campus Calendar links you to the Murray State calendar. To
find out more about health and wellness activities, use the “show events” pull down menu on the calendar.
Health Services and its nursing staff members are proud members of the
American College Health. This organization provides us with up-to-date college health information.
This in turn helps us provide excellent care for the students at Murray State.
